HOW TO APPLY FOR A
S L A Y E R S
CANON CHARACTER
S L A Y E R S
CANON CHARACTER
Arguably the most important step is the first: applying for the character you want. You should begin by checking the Canon Characters Listing to make sure that (A) the character isn't already taken, and (B) what the application criteria are for that particular character. With the exception of a rare few highly sought after characters, your application's key element will be a roleplaying sample focused on the character. This RP sample should be original and not copied from any other source -- your ability to express and roleplay this particular character will be determined based on your RP sample, so any borrowing (even from previous RPs with the character) or copy-pasting will forfeit the application ENTIRELY. The expected length of the sample varies based on the character -- see the Canon Character Listing for specifics -- but as a general rule the more screen time a character had in the series the longer (and better) the sample is expected to be. Please also note that while other characters can appear and act in the RP sample, the sample itself should be firmly focused on the character you're applying for, not other characters or peripheral elements of storytelling.
When you're ready, post your RP sample in the Canon Character Apps section. The title should be as follows: Character Name (USERNAME). For example, if a member named AwesomeSlayer wanted to post an application for Zelgadis, the thread title would be 'Zelgadis Greywords (AWESOMESLAYER)'. The application itself should be formatted as you see below:
CHARACTER: (The full name of the canon character you're applying for.)
RP SAMPLE:
(Post your RP sample, starting underneath the words 'RP SAMPLE'.)
MAIN USERNAME:
CHARACTER:
RP SAMPLE:
[/ul]Step #2: THE REVIEW
Once your application is posted, a staff member or Admin Council member will need to review it. Your reviewer will be evaluating your RP sample to see if it demonstrated (A) that you are knowledgeable and familiar with the character (B) that the basic length requirements have been met, and (C) that the RP sample is sufficiently focused on the character (without this, it's difficult to judge whether an applicant can truly RP a given character effectively).
While staff and council members will always try to review applications as quickly as possible, please give them a reasonable amount of time to review properly. Sometimes we're all busy with other online activities or real-life responsibilities, and forum staff / admins are no exception. DO NOT HARASS STAFF / ADMINS to review your app -- your impatience can be misconstrued as rude behavior and discourage staff / admins from tackling the review process. If your application has been inactive for more than two weeks without any feedback you ARE allowed to send a PM to the Admin Council account reminding us about the overdue review, but please be courteous and avoid demanding lines like "I put my app for Vrumugun up like three weeks ago you ****ers, what's the ****ing hold up? Why the **** haven't you done the ****ing review yet?!?" Messages like these do not encourage staff / admin members to help you, and could even result in a warning or potentially even probation.
When your app has been reviewed and approved, you can move on to the final step. If your reviewer does not approve your app, however, you will need to either resubmit it with changes suggested by the reviewer OR request a second opinion. Second opinions can only be given by council members -- you only get one per application and it is the final say where your application is concerned. If you still feel the review is unfair after a second opinion you may ask for a majority opinion from the Admin Council -- however, if the council still doesn't approve your app you may be forbidden from applying for that character again for the foreseeable future, so ONLY request a council review if you are certain you can prove unjust bias against your application by both reviewers.
Step #3: THE PROFILE
Once your canon application has been approved, you are free to post a character profile for the character as though they were a regular character. There is one noteworthy distinction for the profiles of canon characters: they are not bound by starting AP. Canon characters, by default, have ALL the abilities, traits, and equipment they had in the anime (minus anything they lost and has not recovered as of their last appearance in the series). For example, Zelgadis would start with all the benefits (and downsides) of his chimera body, his sword, and all of his spells.
When posting a canon profile, please link to the approved application at the beginning of the profile.[/ul]
And that's really all there is to it! This thread will be left open for questions and feedback. Happy slaying!
