MEMBER RANKS
This thread is to explain the Member Ranks system on Set Me Free. Unlike other RP forums which have elaborate multi-tiered promotion schemes whereby players can earn expanded privileged and prestige, Set Me Free has a very simple three-level approach. All member ranks can be purchased through the Marketplace -- there's no need to sit around waiting for staff to evaluate your RPs or catch some higher-up's eye to get promoted.
Every newcomer to Set Me Free starts as a Member. Members are simply RPers and have no special privileges -- they need members of higher rank or forum staff to approve their Adventure Rewards and AP gains, as well as transact any purchases in the Adventurer's Marketplace.
Members may purchase an upgrade in the Adventure's Marketplace to become senior members. Senior members have basic approval privileges -- they can approve the Adventure Rewards of themselves and any member not on probation, though they still need veteran or staff members to approve their characters and Marketplace purchases as well as add or subtract AP. Senior Members also have access to additional races for character creation -- for details, see the Character Profile Template.
With the purchase of one final upgrade, senior members can become veteran members. Veterans have full approval privileges -- they can approve characters, Adventure rewards, purchases, and transact AP, including doing all this for themselves. This member rank also unlocks the vast majority of character races, though some limits will still apply regarding the most powerful ones.
Probationary members are members who have had their privileged restricted due to conduct that either (A) is in violation of one or more rules, (B) has seriously offended or harmed the community in some way, or (C) demonstrated abuse of the privileges of their member rank (for example, a veteran giving themselves AP without having done anything to earn it). Members on probation cannot make new characters and, depending on the terms of each specific probation, may be restricted in their use of one or more existing characters. The terms of each probation will be decided and announced by the Admin Council when the probation goes into effect. No member, regardless of position or role, is above probation -- the same rules apply to everyone, both community and staff alike. Probationary members can have their full privileges and position restored one of three ways: by a majority vote (with no fewer than 1/4 the forum population voting) in the Community Discussion section, by at least a 2/3 majority vote of the Admin Council, or by fulfilling the conditions of the probation. Majority vote in the Community Discussion can also be used to apply probation to any member or staff member provided that reasoning for the probation is made public with the request.
Hopefully probation will never have to be applied to anyone on Set Me Free, but this "member rank" must exist as a necessary evil and as a means of potential restoration before banning is every considered for any member.
This thread will be kept open for questions and further discussion.
