GUIDE to SHOPS
In Set Me Free, there are a number of Shop threads set up (marked by the '|S|' in the thread title) where characters can buy, sell, and get certain services performed if they so desire. These are self-regulated -- forum members are expected to keep track of their own Loot, equipment, and other significant items in Inventory threads they set up and handle themselves.
There are three types of shops: supply, pawnbrokers, and specialists. Shops can be two or all three of these types, depending on what they offer.
Pawnbrokers will buy and sell just about anything, sometimes for better prices than supply shops, but typically have limited availability of items on hand. Adventurers tend to make good use of pawnbrokers for offloading treasure and exotic items -- this also makes them a popular place for adventurers to shop if they're in the market for something not commonly available. Anything sold to a pawnbroker gets added to the shop's inventory, so other players can buy the items for their characters once the shop is updated to reflect the current inventory.
Specialists are shops that serve niche interests and can offer a wide variety of unique goods or services. A specialist could be an appraiser, weapon enchanter, alchemical potion brewer, or offer to magically purify people or objects that have been cursed. Some specialists may even allow you to hire elite NPCs as tag-along characters or make special items if you have the right raw materials.[/ul]
The layout for a shop is simple and straight to the point, as outlined below:
TYPE: (Write out which types the shop is, Supply, Pawnbroker, and/or Specialist.)
RULES: (Describe any special rules or requirements for the shop here. For example, an extremely racist shop owner in human territory may not sell to Beastmen characters; a snobbish high-end magic shop may only sell to characters with a magic-related class. A shop's rules can be whatever the shop owner decides, so these can vary widely from business to business.)
INVENTORY: (List what items the shop sells in this section, including their price and a description if necessary. Items with limited availability should be marked with a number in brackets, such as 'Sword - 30 Gold [3]'. Items of unusually high quality -- and typically price -- may also be marked by ★s.
SERVICES: (Usually only offered by Specialists, list and describe any services offered by the shop in this section.)
BUYING: (This section describes what the shop is willing to buy, or not buy, and at what percentage of its value. Items listed regularly can be sold, such as 'Weapons - 75%'; items listed with a strike through them cannot be sold to this shop at all, such as '

(The above should be posted in the first post of a shop thread or immediately in any other thread when a shop becomes available in it. Please remember to clearly note in a post when a shop has closed up.)
To buy or sell in any shop, simply post the items (or services) you want to purchase and the total cost / total gain. Example:
You don't need to format the list exactly like that, as long as it's clear and easy to understand. PLEASE REMEMBER to deduct the cost of any purchases (or add money from any sales) yourself in your character Inventory thread(s). The staff WILL NOT do this for you, but will notice if you don't do it.
You can also add a bit of RP in the post if you'd like, though all that's required is the list of what you're buying or selling and the total(s).
Additionally, characters with the 'Merchant' secondary class can set up their own shops, either by making a new thread or using an existing one, even Adventure threads. However, if your character is only going to be somewhere for a certain time in-story please post clear notice when they've moved on or closed up shop. Any and all shops set up by roleplayers follow their own rules -- they can set or haggle over prices and make deals as they see fit, so price-changing Traits/Abilities like 'Eye For Value' have no bearing on player-owned shops.
