NAME: Vaun Redwalk, the Hellrider
GENDER: Male
RACE: Human
ORIGIN: Barrier Lands
AGE: 26
CLASS: Spellcaster
SECONDARY CLASS: Martial Artist
APPEARANCE: Vaun is an average-height man of well-build stature, having defined but balanced muscles. He looks just as capable of beating someone down as well as outmaneuvering them. He has jet-black hair with a very messy style, as well as most of it covering the left side of his face. His eyes are dark red, but when he's fighting they start to glow. His skin has a slight tan to it.
Vaun shifts between two appearances: his casual clothing and his armored combat gear. In his casual clothing he wears a red scarf, a black long coat, a black long-sleeved shirt, black pants, and black leather shoes. His combat gear consists of a pale green set of armor with silver accents and occasional patches of gold. The armor consists of a chest plate with single-spiked shoulder pads secured by brown leather belts, bicep, forearm, and calf plates. The calf plates have golden spring-loaded "jacks" on them that can be triggered with the gemstone in his belt, pressing them down to give a boost to either kicking or jumping power. When he wears his armor he loses the long coat.
The helmet of Vaun's armor is what sticks out the most, having an almost insectoid appearance to it's pale green-colored metal. A single, horn-like spike protrudes from the forehead area and sides raise up above the head in the back in a spire-like fashion. The mouthpiece is golden and has a segmented appearance to it. The eyes have vents, darkening his eyes and letting the glow from radiate from underneath.
Between both appearances there is a common item other than the black clothing: His belt. The belt is brown leather with an Orihalcon buckle in the shape of an insect with large hind legs and small front legs. The middle of the buckle has an octagon-shaped socket for a gemstone. The stone's insertion is what summons his armor.
EQUIPMENT:
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT: Armor of the Hellrider
DESCRIPTION: A set of armor primarily colored in a pale green with some splashes of silver and gold as trim. It provides outstanding head, chest, and shoulder protection, however the armor covering other regions either covers less area or is simply non-existent. The biceps and forearms have small plates covering them, while the joints are exposed, and from the chest down there is little protection at all. The legs have plates along the lower halves of them which have gold-colored "jacks" attached to them that spring downward to create a propelling force that will bounce the wearer away from whatever he's just kicked, potentially allowing for multiple bounces off of the same target.
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT: Hellcrystal & Rider Belt
DESCRIPTION: A belt buckle and an octagonal-shaped red gem necessary to trigger the summoning of his armor. Without both the crystal and the belt buckle Vaun cannot summon his armor.
PERSONALITY: A man who claims to have seen hell itself, Vaun is a vicious, antisocial man bordering on being a sociopath. He will attack anyone who he believes is "laughing at him" or just rubs him the wrong way. Despite these traits he usually ends up fighting whoever the "bad guys" are, though he will attack other fighters who he believes are too full of themselves to "give them a taste of hell."
Vaun is an extremely determined fighter. He is fully aware of the dangers involved in using the belt that he carries and makes several checks to make sure he doesn't go out of control. First of all, he will not use the belt unless he has a clear target set, and second he will consider opponents "defeated" when they are incapacitated, making sure he remains conscious to make sure he can decide if he needs to kill his targets. Despite these two checks he does occasionally lose control and will not stop fighting until he has destroyed something utterly if he does.

HISTORY: To understand Vaun is to understand the nature of his strange magical armor, a weapon that he himself does not fully understand, but seems to go along with the man's violent nature. The unnamed armor is a weapon created to fight against Mazoku during the Koma War as the human numbers began to thin. The first man to use the armor fought until he could no longer stand, attacking indiscriminately. While it was effective against the Mazoku, the belt that summoned the armor was locked away due to it's tendency to drive its wearer to their own destruction. For over a thousand years, it sat unused and forgotten.
Then the barrier fell.
Vaun Redwalk himself before the barrier fell was a simple, albeit violent man. Fighting with his bare hands, Vaun had become infamous in his home town for snapping and attacking anyone around him who he perceived as "laughing at him." He had never killed anyone, but had crippled several people. However, since most of these people turned out to be criminals or monsters, most people turned a blind eye and kept their distance.
Trying to find some kind of inner peace to quell the constant rage in his heart, Vaun ventured out into the world to find his purpose for existing. His journey was full of hardships that brought him to the brink of death, but every time he managed to cling on to his life. Due to his constant life-and-death scrapes, people who encountered him began to refer to him as the Hellrider, as though he were riding the wings of death itself.
Eventually, he found the resting place of the Belt. He found himself drawn to it, and as soon as he acquired it he put it on, then placed the gemstone he found alongside it into a slot on the belt, summoning the armor to him. Rather than immediately losing his mind, the Hellrider had once again escaped fate, gaining control of the armor's power. His remarkable will allows him to use the armor and keep his mind, however he came to find that prolonged usage would eventually cause his mind to succumb to the armor's effects when he killed a bandit who attacked him for the gem.
While he had no remorse for the bandit's life that he had taken, Vaun decided that he must dedicate himself to placing restrictions on his mind, so he fought. Anyone and anything that would challenge him. After many battles with the armor's will clawing away at his own, Vaun managed to place psychological barriers in his mind that would theoretically stop him if he starts to lose control. The man who always finds himself fighting paired with armor that drives it wearer to fight seems like a perfect match, but it remains to be seen which is is getting the better end of the deal.

TRAIT: Astral Warrior
DESCRIPTION: This is a 'common', 'astral', 'melee' trait. Due to the distinct nature of the Hellrider armor and the purpose it was created for, any and all unarmed melee attacks while wearing the armor will do 'astral' type damage when they connect, enabling it to be an effective weapon against Mazoku and other immaterial foes when used properly.
AP COST: 20
TRAIT: Fury of the Hellrider
DESCRIPTION: After 8 consecutive posts of combat, Vaun will give in to the bloodlust that the armor projects onto him, driving him into a frenzy over the next three posts. During these three posts Vaun will attack relentlessly and without organized though, making him harder to predict but also significantly lowering his defensive abilities. After the end of the third post Vaun's armor will disappear and leave him physically weakened.
AP COST: 30
ABILITY: Blast Kick
DESCRIPTION: This is a 'common', 'lightning', 'astral', 'melee' ability. Vaun leaps high into the air and charges his feet with lightning magic, releasing it onto whatever he lands on. This also triggers the jacks on his legs, bouncing him back into the air. He can bounce up to 3 times before having to land, and the charge loses power between each consecutive attack. Because of the 'Astral Warrior' trait this attack also does 'astral'-type damage, making it possible to harm Mazoku and other immaterial foes.
